SummaryAs a Surgical Coordinator at Mercy Medical Center, you'll play a pivotal role in facilitating smooth and efficient surgical operations within our gynecology department. You'll be responsible for coordinating surgical schedules, managing patient appointments, and ensuring all necessary authorizations are obtained. This is a dynamic role that requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities
Facilitate surgical scheduling and optimize providers' surgical blocks for maximum efficiency
Harmonize provider's clinic schedules to achieve a well-balanced array of surgical appointments
Ability to accompany providers to various clinic locations to facilitate check-ins, check-outs, and surgical scheduling, as needed
Proactively reach out to waitlisted patients to offer earlier appointment options when available, while also diligently monitoring surgical volumes to ensure providers consistently meet their targets
Ensure timely completion of authorizations for surgeries and in-office procedures, adhering meticulously to regulatory standards
Efficiently manage pre-operative paperwork and confirm appointments through personalized phone calls and MyChart messages
Serve as a crucial intermediary between physicians and patients, offering comprehensive guidance on the entire surgical journey
Offer seamless administrative support to guarantee the smooth functioning of the medical surgery center
Maintain meticulous medical records and promptly address incoming calls to uphold operational efficiency
All other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Education and Work Experience:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED
Prefer 2 years experience in surgical posting
Knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding a plus not required

Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circ*mstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Other Requirements:
Must possess skills in surgical scheduling and medical terminology.
Must be knowledgeable in the use of computers and transcription machines.
Must be able to use a variety of mechanical equipment such as copiers, computers, facsimile machines and postage equipment.
Must be able to apply HIPPA guidelines throughout interactions with patients and insurance companies.
Accepts other assignments and projects as needed and requested.
