You have a potentially difficult situation, Bent

We do!! She's my husband's sister...16 year difference and she loves the OBX. I am very skeptical about bringing her with what she could potentially face. It will be hard enough with the two of us. And me driving and backing in the trailer for the boat. That should be fun!

I have been here in NH for about 2 weeks with my 88yold mom and my dog. Walk the dog 3-4 times a day and only once in the rain mostly due to bad timing. The forecast has been tropical to say the least. There has been t-storms in the forecast most days, and most days were beach days for at least a few hours. or all day if you went either north or south of the storms. So don't worry about the forecast, probably only a day or two will be rainy. Check out the newly renovated Graveyard of the Atlantic museum. They did a great jiob.

WallySail sounds like you are catching on quick to the fickleness of OBX weather forecasting.
Could, possible, chance of, maybe, are the CYA words included in most forecasts here.
I carry a rain jacket and umbrella in my rides. If it is raining where you are travel a few miles north or south and the sun will be shining. (Most times).

When it rains and storms at the beach, we go to Avon pier and drink one dollar PBRs and watch the surf.

That's off the chain Bent! You thrill seekers!

And...we also love watching the wild storm over the sound.

When we stayed down/across the street from you in May 2000 we rode out a nor-easter the first half of the week. It got a bit sporty out in the sound. As you know, the church at hwy 12 sits on a bit of a rise (about a foot, maybe 2). Everyone in BB moved their cars to the church.

The Atlantic is calm and not stirred up so the surface temp is very warm. Prime conditions for a hurricane in my uneducated opinion. But if 4'11" Cantori shows up, that's a good sign.

Hahahhahaha! We used to have a rooster named Lumpy. He was short and mean....meanest little man around! I always think of him when Cantori's name is mentioned.....

Cape Hatteras baptist church is a rally point for vehicles in a storm. If you do park there for a storm leave your contact info on a paper visible on the dash they had a situation where a visitor parked their car there during a storm and it would not start afterwards so they abandoned it and it took some time to get it moved so people could pull in and out of the lot because of where it was parked. Their phone number is 252-475-4970 if you need to let them know you are parking there. Pastor Russ Howard lives right behind the church on Bucaneer Dr if you ever need him.

One of the highest elevations in Kitty Hawk also is a huge parking lot. The Catholic Church on Kitty Hawk Road is the go to spot for flood parking. Just as good is Lighthouse Church on Beacon Dr. behind Daniels Homeport furniture store. They also want you to leave your phone number on your dash.

Thanks for the interactive map. It was somewhat difficult to zoom in, but I did come up with an estimate of 33 feet for the high point on Beacon Drive location of Lighthouse Church. I have not researched it, but my guess is that is the highest point in Kitty Hawk because you can see both the sound and the ocean at street level.
